After working for an Audiologist for a number of years, Tracie Edwards, a certified Hearing Aid Specialist, decided it was time for her to start her own business. Tracie first came to the Allegany Business Center because “I knew that I needed to make a move to better myself and I really wasn't sure where to begin…or … how to put all these ideas I had into perspective.” Tracie received technical assistance with her start-up business. She was taught the steps that one has to take to get a business started, along with the importance of creating a comprehensive business plan. She opened the Hearing Aid Shop in Bolivar, NY in October of 2007. Sales have been exceeding expectations and she has hired one part-time employee. Tracie says that the Allegany Business Center helped her in that she was forced to look at the business from every angle, not just the technical side. Tracie says, “I really almost fought having to go through the business end, but that was foolish. To be a successful business person you have to know the business end. You have to know every part of your business.” She also cites networking opportunities as another advantage of working with the Allegany Business Center. |
