ACCORD’s Allegany Business Center, in conjunction with Steuben Trust Company held the second annual Business Networking Night on Wednesday, March 25th at the Crossroads Commerce Center in Belmont. Over 15 start-up and existing businesses exhibited their wares at the table-top expo. The show boasted a variety of products from Allegany County businesses; everything from hand crafted jewelry to solar-powered internet service. Over 50 people attended the event and enjoyed delicious food provided by Cat’s Café and Gifts of Wellsville.
“In this difficult economy this is what smart entrepreneurs are doing,” said Gretchen Hanchett, Business and Community Development Division Director, “they need to be in the forefront promoting their companies and find other businesses and services they can work with to ensure success.”
The event was part of the Business Center’s Entrepreneurial Assistance Program (EAP); a 10- week class designed to assist start-up and expanding businesses. As part of the event, EAP students and alumni were invited to display table-top exhibits to promote their businesses. Local economic development officials, and representatives from the event sponsor, Steuben Trust Company, were also on hand.
“We were very pleased to sponsor this year's networking night. It was enjoyable to meet on a one to one basis with the local businesses that were exhibiting and to learn more about them.” Said Jack Emrick, Senior Vice-President & Branch Administrator for Steuben Trust Company. “It was a diversified group but one with a common theme - innovative and motivated. They all should be commended for their efforts in these challenging times. We are looking forward to participating once again next year."
In addition to sponsoring the Networking Night, Steuben Trust Company is also providing a $500 start-up grant for the winner of a business plan contest held in conjunction with the EAP class. The winner will also receive a one-year membership in the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce provided by the Chamber.
